Gorgeous DALMATIA & ZADAR - my home - Gallery
77
From last year, I live in Zadar, 3000 years old town on the coast of Adriatic Sea (gorgeous part of Mediterranean Sea in Europe), in the part of Croatia which is called Dalmatia, from ancient Roman times.
Dalmatia is certainly most beautiful part of my country - misterious sparkling sea with thousands of island put like pearls into it, shining sun, romantic coast full of stones and rocks, which sea, winds and sirens passionately use to play the most enchanting songs of the nature.
Wild rocky mountains jealously protect Dalmatia from the rest of the country, - here is the world of palm trees, agaves and pine trees which grow on the red soil (terra rosa). Here is the world of many shining intensive colours (due to the strong sun and many sunny days) which make you feel alive and content. Here is the world of gentle fragrances from the sea, aromatic herbs which grow in the rocks, world where winds are free to play their games, tenderly whispering in the palm - leaves , or wildly crushing seawaves on the mighty rocks.
Mother Nature gave to Dalmatia her beauty in pure abundance.
From early childhood I dreamed to live here, whenever I look at this glowing blue-green sea and proud rocks and mountains, I can feel just pure happiness.
Zadar was very destroyed during the Second World War and at least half part of it was build after that. But still new parts and old ones create the harmony under the hot Mediterranien sun.
All these pics I took in previous months, and I really hope you will like them.
Sea organs - listen the sound of wind and waves in popular sea organs in Zadar
Island Pag
Island Pag is very strange island - majority of it are just naked white rocks, due to the strong wind from mountain Velebit, which blows the salt from the sea on island. Despite that, is very popular place for tourist.
Island Pag
Island Ugljan
Nice, romantic pitoresque island across the town of Zadar. Wild beaches, many small villages full of surprises, traditional style of life still preseved in combination with tourism. Ugljan has many interesting paths and small hills for biking and walking.

Town NIN
Nin is very small, romantic and historically very important Croatian town: it was seat of first Croatian Dukes - Princes (rulers of Dalmatia) - 7 Croatian rulers in the middle age were crowned in NIN. It was also place where bishops of Nin were making extreme effort through the many centuries to preserve Croatian language and protect if from latinisation (replacing with Latin language).
Now is beautiful place where old buildings and churches keep the memories on the part of challenging Croatian history.
It is situated 17 km NW of Zadar.

Island Vir
This island is during the summer completely crowded with tourists, and so peaceful during the rest of the year.
This red gorgeous clif with the beach is the most interesting part of it which I have seen, I was astonished when I discovered this perfect view.

NP KRKA - Krka river, Croatia
Few miles far from town Zadar are also two beautiful National Parks:
one is part of the wild and innocent mythical mountain VELEBIT, NP Paklenica, and the other is beautiful NP Krka, where the nature created amazing scenario with greenish blue river, woods and stones...
Mountain Velebit
Mighty mountain Velebit, my dream from childhood, where the nature is mostly untouched is my favorite hiking place, my passion, the place where I learn about life letting the forces of nature teach me directly.
More really amazing pics of the nature on Velebit, are in my Hub: http://hubpages.com/hub/MOUNTAIN-VELEBIT-NP-Paklenica-Croatia

This is my home town and these pictures are just heart breaking. Loved them. I'm now in Canasa and find my inspiration for writing in my ancient city.
Coming soon from Black Opal Books: Bonded by Crimson
Born in Zadar, grew up in Preko (island of Ugljan), 30 + years in US and hoping to return to my only home soon.
Thank you for the pictures, they bring tears to my eyes, emotions of that sort cannot be suppressed.
There is "beautiful" and then, right above it,....... there is Croatia, words are not adequate to explain it, nothing like it exists anywhere else.
Times were not kind to many of us, so we left in search of prosperity, I never found the fame or fortune, but some did, short term survival became a way of life for the rest of us.
We get trapped in life's puzzles and forget to come home, there is always another delay, reason, obstacle, but one day soon,.... I'll just drop everything and come home, nothing matters any more, I want to hear people address me by my real name and not ask me to spell it first.
I need to see those sunsets, snorkel and swim in places that I have not forgotten, climb the olive tree, smell the pines and taste the fig from tree I used to climb as a boy.
I need to hear the Dalmatian song , spontaneous and natural, coming from nearby, no one really understands what that is unless they have lived there.
Had I known then what I know now, I would have never left, I feel cheated and misguided, robbed and abused for wrong ideals and goals.
Just when I think I got used to it, there is a song, a picture or an event that hits me like a strike of lighting coming from clear sky.
Over the years, I did things to improvise, try to supplement and mimic the life I left behind, nothing is ever good enough, fish is never fresh, tomatoes don’t smell,……… or taste like one I used to pick from my mother’s garden, everything seems to be a lie, even though it is real, the best I can find, it falls short in comparison.
I have an assortment of oil stones for sharpening kitchen knives, the famous Arkansas stones, finest in the world and yet, I see no value in them, they look artificial to me, too perfect to be natural but they are indeed natural, just not my kind of rocks.
I miss the Dalmatian rocks, those rock walls that make hillside terraces with olive trees in them, those on see shores, rocks under the water, with clams and shells on them and inside them. The finest rock in the world is the one that can feed you as well as look pretty.
So fire away, post pictures of places I cannot forget, make me regret ever leaving my nest, however poor and hopeless it may have been, it now looks as if it was a lot more than I realized at a time.
Pozdrav svima u domovini, bilo da su tamo cjeli svoj zivot ili se vracaju iz divljine svjetskih metropola.
Looking back on things I wrote, there is no mistake, English is not my language, only reflection of times past, way to reach and communicate a thought to many people.
When you see these comments and pictures, you too will cry for lost paradise.
Lost it is, because of many wars and barbaric attempts to rule it by foreign powers, political or economical.
Croatia is land of Croats for many centuries and should stay that way for centuries to come.
Say "NO" to EU, it has done nothing for us in time of need and it will ruin our country for a long time.
EU and UN stood by as our people were slaughtered, imposed arms embargo on former Yugoslavia, knowing damn well that aggressors have all the arms and victims have none to defend themselves.
Croatia has right to defend itself, we earned the right to be free on our centuries old rock, free of slave owners and free for our people to return there after years on the run, inspire and promote people to come back and build the country for new generations.
Don't sell us into slavery once again.Croatia just got out of political slavery, now it is about to enter an economic slavery, handful of thugs in wrong places can do historic harm to centuries old struggle for freedom.

Wonderful pictures, Tatjana-Mihaela. I always enjoy pictures of far-off places. When I worked in New York City I often stopped at the little theater in Grand Central Station where they frequently ran travelogues. I stopped there frequently. Unfortunately, I rarely get to see the sites in person. Dalmatia and Zadar look like nice places to visit.
