GREEN DREAM HOME: Earthship

Build GREEN
.
One of the most interesting, artistic and special ideas for building the green, sustainable home is - EARTHSHIP. It is great solution for the enhusiasts to build such home (very cheap if there is group of people ready to personally get involved in the whole process of building), for the rest of the people - beautiful inspiration to implement some of ideas into their homes, or teach the children about green solutions for their future homes.
The whole house is magickal - build with used tires, cans and glass bottles...is completely ecological, comfortable, and asures to the owners very luxury living.
When finished, house is completely self suistainable:it heats and cools itself, produces its own solar energy...and is created on the way that even harvests majority of water which one households needs. There is practicaly no utility bills while living in earthship.
And yes, every house has even inside garden, and due to the position of windows, you grow your own food inside of your home.

Earthship Exterior
.
Architectural design for the Earthships vary depending of wishes of owners - some people tend to build something more classical, some adore to be innovative and original and use imagination to create something completely unique and special.

Inside the Earthship
Earthship interior
.
I am especially fascinated with interior design of the Earthship: it allows the people to expand their creativity to the highest points...and really construct and decorate the interior from fairy tales and all their most beautiful dreams.

Bulding the Earthship
.
Earthship is built from 45% recycled materials thus starting the construction of the building with a negative carbon footprint :here is no energy required to reuse existing materials.
Outside walls are built from used tires, which are filled with dirt - this combination provides exceptional stability and the best insulation system possible.
Inside walls are combination of used cans, cut glass bottles and tied together with concrete.
BTW, coloured glass bottles walls make extraordinary light effects...
Cost of building can be as low as 6000 USD if group of people do it with their own hands and enthusiasm, but if you build it on classical way (by labour of paid builders), coast can be very high, as much as any other building.

Architect Michael Reynolds - Hero of this world
.
Earthship project is created by the architect Michael Reynolds, whose courage to build great houses from the material majority of other people consider as trash (especially in posh world of architects) and succeed in his idea, makes him true hero of this human world.
He is one of my personal heros for sure: this world needs such people who are brave and proud enough that instead of weapons keep the shovels in their arms, and who are not ashamed to put the dirt on their hands and show the world their love for this planet and care for future of Earth and humanity.
Future of humanity will be build by such architectural changes. In the world where climate is changing, pollution is high and we are wasting our natural resources on style of life which is completely unreal and not natural, such projects show us way of achieving more realistic future which will make people much more content, harmonized and united with nature...
.
About my personal experience in eco-building, I will write in one of my next Hubs, and topic will be: cob-building.

What a fun and great hub. I love the idea of an earthship. I really do hope that it catches on. I'm really tired of unnecessary energy bills and the increase of which is coming at the worst of times. I really do like these houses. Maybe someday, I'll be able to own one! Thank you so much for sharing this, Tatjana-Mihaela!
Things like this bring a little bit of light in the darkness.
Earthships are one of a number of methods for building "green" homes.
As you noted, there are quite a few Earthship homes here in New Mexico not far from where I live.
If enough people will act independently and in local groups, there may be a chance for some progress against the destructive machine of consumerism.
These are amazing! I would love to live in any one of them. Thanks for all the photos and information. It is certainly something to aspire to!
I have to send this to Phil! Its an amazing idea, its beautiful! I had not heard of this type of home building. Thanks for sharing and opening my eyes to learn something new. :)
Wow, this just looks amazing! Nice work ;)
Very good artile.
Wasting natural resources is a great sin indeed. I watched the video and I got interested. Now I am off to create a wind powered illuminating devise from available raw materials. May even write a hub on it! Thanks Tanja! :)
Love~Love, LOVE this hub!! :)
I grow so weary of looking at the suburban cookie cutter homes. They lack individuality and style. The earthship homes are all about being unique. I love that no two are the same. My husband and I have been researching earthships for a couple of years now and are planning our attack! :) We look forward to joining your rank soon.
so cool
Tatjana-Mihaela you are wonderful!

Tatjana-Mihaela,
One of my friend built a house like that in India. He built it on a tree. I visited that house and it was comfortable.
Thanks for supporting green. i am all set for that.
Thanks and thumbs up.
