STORY ABOUT SMALL, ANGRY ICELAND VOLCANO

Small volcano Eyfajallajokull was peacefully sleeping for 200 years but decided to wake up on March this year with strong eruption that was so amazing and so beautiful, especially for many tourists who were visiting it in March and April...Well it was interesting up till recently when volcano ash cloud started to cause big problems to air traffic especially in Europe, and due to that worldwide. On that point, when volcano was spewing anger in the form of dust and lava, situation became annoying.

So, how is Europe looking now?

If some of you think that here in Europe we are sitting in our homes completely covered with  ash, you are wrong - the sky is blue as always (except on rainy days)... Some people even swear that is bluer then it was before eruption !.

When problem with volcano arised, main topic on the news was problem with planes staying dormant on European airports and huge negative impact on profit of flight-companies - for days we were listening only that they were loosing a lot of money and that they were on the best way to commit bankruptcy. Ash cloud and impact on ecology or climate were pushed in the second plan as far less important topic (!): Info abut ash cloud was so poor that when we heard that cloud will reach Mediterranean - we just did not know what to expect. There were warnings that older people and children should stay at home, as well as people with respiratory problems - so only thing we could imagine was that we would walk in clouds of grey dust and not see blue sky for many weeks or months, what of course could not happen - this volcano is very small and very, very far from here.

I understand that traffic is crucial for humanity today - but my only thoughts were :

1. For God`s sake, what is going on with cloud - how this cloud really looks like, so far from Iceland?
2. How can flight-companies be on the best way to bankruptcy after several days of non-flying only? How they can lead such important business without any money saved for such occasions? I have very small business but I can afford myself not to work for few months if I really need to take rest and these big guys cannot. Does it mean that I am more successful then them, or they were just exaggerating ?

It is unknown and we will never know was it real need to close so many airports and was it really so big treat for safety of the flights - the fact is that governments (politicians) of European Community decided to close airspace in the whole Europe (EU) and it remained closed for days without any test flights done that would check real situation in the sky, and many flight-companies disagreed with such approach to the problem. Politicians are certainly not experts for flights.

In my country (Croatia) airports were closed on one day only, because our experts quickly woke up from European volcanic dream and discovered that by the time cloud reached Mediterranean, it was completely dispersed, so not dangerous for planes at all. Next day, planes were normally flying again. I was not surprised - because there was eruption of big volcano Etna in 2006, in our neighbour country Italy, and flights were all the time normal.

Just to let you know, when ash cloud reached the sky of area where I live, the sky was normal as always, birds were happily singing and nobody did have any breathing problems at all. Volcanic dust was very high, very dispersed - and not visible at all - as it was invisible everywhere in the Europe besides Iceland.

Nature is always gorgeous - even when it is happening something what we people consider as disaster or treat for our survival. These beautiful photos of erupting Iceland volcano in combination with aurora borealis were taken 2 days ago.

It is not possible to deny extraordinary beauty of sparkling Eyfajallajokull , whose anger is gradually calming down last few days.

Nature is always inspiring.

After panic in Europe calmed down, many people swear that sky is now bluer then it was before eruption ! I have just read on Yahoo News some people´s poetry inspired by beautiful European sky that became now bluer then it was ever before.

Although I am a person who regularly watch the sky, I really cannot say that the sky is really bluer now then it was before : the secret is that many did not look in the sky for years at all and now they have discovered how beautiful it can be...

I also believe that this eruption have provoked many people to finally start to show greater admiration and respect for beauties and power of nature. Chaos in traffic and relief after fear from possible ecological disaster hopefully inspired many to reconnect more with nature and finally see how truly gorgeous, mighty and inspiring is world which surrounds us .
